FIELD SET-UP AND TAKE-DOWN
Storage Shed at Cooks Park is the on the opposite side of the building from the restrooms and is the room nearest to the horse stables (east end).
Storage shed at Marco is the larger storage unit (40’) adjacent to the roller hockey rink. The proper door for field lining equipment is the single door that faces the track and Del Obispo. The double doors at the Marco 2 end are not the correct doors.
NOTE: THE DOOR LATCH ARM MUST BE ALL THE WAY DOWN AND UNDER THE METAL ‘HOOK’ FOR THE LOCK TO FUNCTION PROPERLY (for both locking and unlocking the lock). It takes some pressure down to latch.
Storage shed for ACU field is the lone mobile storage unit. The door hinges are very stiff. It takes a fair amount of pressure (and ‘bouncing’) the door to open and close it. Inward pressure needs to be put on the door to get the latch arm to latch.
Storage shed for Sports Park is down by the Community Center (by Del Avion) adjacent to SP2. It is the door that is furthest away from Del Avion.

Paint dollies are stored inside (paint should also be available). If paint is running down to last couple of cases contact the fields director at fields@ayso87.org .
Cans of paint should be well shaken before inserting into paint dolly. The spray tip is directional. The tip can produce either a wide spray or a very narrow spray. You can adjust the line width by rotating the paint can in its' holder to achieve a line on the ground of about 3 inches wide. Narrower lines are hard to see and wider lines diminish over time easier. Normal usage is 4-5 cans of paint for a U8 field, 6-7 cans for a U10 field and 7-9 cans for a full size field, but this does vary.
Please move the goals if they are in place so that the goal line is continuous and neat.
Empty paint cans (and they should be used to be completely empty) can be thrown in the trash. The ‘recycle’ containers at the parks are for glass bottles and drink cans so the paint cans should go in the non-recycle trash.
PLEASE THROW AWAY THE EMPTY PAINT CANS.
There should be prior lines for the soccer pitches that just need to be gone over with new paint. A fairly slow pace is needed to make sure that the lines are good. Using the reel of string and staking out the lines will generally assure a straighter line. Paint over the string….. it’s OK.
If the lines are not real apparent, it is advisable to stake out the corners/ points and use the reel of string for a better guide for straight lines .
Field lining should be done on Thursday or Friday afternoon- grass is drier and the turf paint will adhere better. There may be a conflict with practice, but ask the coach to bear with you while you do your job.
Corner flags should be set out the morning of game days and put away after the last game of the day.
Goals may be need to be placed on game days. GET HELP FROM OTHER PARENTS TO MOVE GOALS.
Goals need to be anchored. There should be sand bags set on the goals for safety. The sandbags and goals sometimes get moved by the city for field mowing or by other people using the park. Often the sandbags are moved by the bushes near the horse trail, by the trash cans or by the baseball fields.
There should be extra sandbags in the shed.
If there are not sand bags, there should be metal stakes in the shed that can be used; these disappear due to the goals being moved, but can be used to secure the goals.
Lines that are needed:
U8 FIELD
Goal lines- approximately 32 yards long
Touch lines- approximately 60 yards long
Center line- touch line to touch line
Center Circle- circle radius of about 6 yards
Corner arcs- 2 to 3 foot radius arc (usually easiest to free hand with paint can)
Goal Area- 4 yards from each goal upright and 4 yards out from the goal line (rectangle 12 yards x 4 yards)
12 yard Cherry Picking line- line from touch line to touch line 12 yards from the goal line
U10 FIELD
Goal lines- approximately 42 yards long
Touch lines- approximately 80 yards long
Center line- touch line to touch line
Center Circle- circle radius of about 8 yards
Corner arcs- 3 foot radius arc (usually easiest to free hand with paint can)
Goal Area- 5 yards from goal upright and 6 yards out from the goal line (rectangle 17 yards x 5 yards)
Penalty Area- approximately 14 yards from each goal upright and 14 yards from the goal line (rectangle of approx. 35 yards x 14 yards)
Penalty Arc.- from a point that is 10 yards from the goal line (at middle), an 8 yard arc that would connect with the Penalty Area line- This is the line that would keep U10 players 8 yards from the ball for a kick from the penalty mark . (10 yards for players U12 and older)
Coaching box- a line parallel with and 1 yard off the touch line, at the halfway line, extending 8 yards in either direction with a 1 yard line marking the end of each ‘coaching box’. This is to signify where the coaches must remain
U12 and up FIELD
Goal lines- approximately 55 yards long
Touch lines- approximately 110 yards long
Center line- touch line to touch line
Center Circle- circle radius of 10 yards
Corner arcs- 3 foot radius arc (usually easiest to free hand with paint can)
Goal Area- 6 yards from goal upright and 6 yards out from the goal line (rectangle 19 yards x 6 yards)
Penalty Area- approximately 18 yards from each goal upright and 18 yards from the goal line (rectangle of approx. 44 yards x 18 yards)
Penalty Arc.- from a point that is 10 yards from the goal line (at middle), an 8 yard arc that would connect with the Penalty Area line- This is the line that would keep U10 players 8 yards from the ball for a kick from the penalty mark . (10 yards for players U12 and older)
Coaching box- a line parallel with and 1 yard off the touch line, at the halfway line, extending 10 yards in either direction with a 1 yard line marking the end of each ‘coaching box’. This is to signify where the coaches must remain.
